WHY WE'RE BUILDING THIS We originally developed this hub as the cornerstone of our hub series. At its launch, we poured all our hub and bearing expertise into it, creating a hub that strikes the perfect balance of weight, performance, durability, and aesthetics. Despite the rise of disc brakes (and the R45D), we continue to produce it because it remains that core hub, and many riders still love their rim brakes both on and off-road. WHY YOU WANT HER The R45 front hub is lighter and more aerodynamic than many durable hubs on the market. The R45 rear hub combines a redesigned 45-tooth RingDrive™ system for reduced resistance and near-instantaneous engagement times with a lightweight hub body and our legendary, in-house manufactured bearings. Our bearings—steel or ceramic—feature heat-treated, surgically precise steel races that are machined simultaneously to ensure a perfect fit between the inner and outer rings. You'll feel (and hear) the quality and speed of our bearings on every ride. As Chris King races break in, they actually get faster. A little regular maintenance will keep this hub running smoothly for years under heavy use. All Chris King rear hubs deliver the typical “angry-bee” sound.
